According to David Lennon of Newsday, a scout said teams had been trying to move up to select RHP Carlos Monasterios, who the Mets drafted then immediatly traded to the Dodgers.
…by the way, the Mets just announced the trade in a press release…

The Mets have traded Monasterios, who they selected this morning in the Rule 5 Draft, to the Dodgers for cash considerations.
…ok… well, that was quick… i suspect this had little to do with money, and more to do with the Dodgers wanting this specific player…
Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times said the Mets had asked the Dodgers about relievers Ronald Belisario and Cory Wade.
…also, there has been all that buzz between the Dodgers, Mets, Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre… or, i’m just getting antsy, and hoping for action, and this is just as simple as it all sounds… time will tell…

The Mets selected Monasterios from the Phillies with the seventh pick today in the Rule 5 Draft.
The 23–year-old Monasterios was originally signed by the Yankees in 2004 as a non-drafted free agent, then traded to the Phillies with other prospects in exchange for Bobby Abreu.
In 35 games for Single-A Clearwater last season, Monasterios was 5–6, pitching mostly in relief, with a 3.73 ERA, including 71 strike outs in 82 innings, during which he was named to the Florida State League Mid-Summer All-Star Team.
He was later promoted to Double-A Reading, but pitched in just two games, including one start, allowing three runs in just seven innings of work.
The Mets had one available spot open on their 40–man roster.
According to the rules of the draft, Monasterios must be kept on the team’s 25-man roster all of next season. Otherwise, he can be put on waivers, through which he can be claimed by another team. However, if he clears, he must first be offered back to the Phillies before returning to the Mets minor league system.
